No Cooking Required: 3 Smoothies When You’re Too Lazy to Cook

Don’t feel like cooking? I don’t blame you.

It’s hot.  Summer’s almost over.  You just want to go out and play before it’s back to crazy time.

So this time of year it’s fun to put cooking on the — back burner (yes, I just did that) — and enjoy all your nutrients in one killer smoothie.

Below are my 3 go-to smoothie recipes for the summer or really any time of year, but first, let’s make sure you’re stocked up to prepare your own blended beauties…

How to Gear Up For Killer Smoothies All Week

1. Make sure you have good “adding bulk” ingredients on hand.  Do this at the beginning of the week:  pick up a bunch of bananas and the moment you get home, peel them all, add to a ziplock bag, and stick the bag in the freezer.

Now you have something to add instant sweetness and a creamy consistency to your smoothies all week!

Don’t like bananas? Avocados can make your smoothies rich and creamy with more of a neutral flavor.

2. Stock up on your favorite superfoods. Greens, protein powder, fruit, etc. are the “meat” of your smoothie but while you’re at it why not throw in some extra “oomph”?

I always have a bag of raw cacao for a magnesium boost (and more chocolate flavor, obviously) and ground flaxseeds or chia seeds for a fiber boost and brain boosting omega 3’s.

3. Add spices or fresh herbs. In the winter it’s great to add some ground spices like turmeric, ginger, cinnamon, or even nutmeg. Not only do these spices pack an anti-inflammatory punch but they help increase blood flow, warming you up. But in the summer? It’s a great time of year to get access to fresh, local herbs like basil, mint, and parsley. Not only are herbs are packed with antioxidants and essential oils to make your skin look younger, your smoothies feel more like a refreshing cocktail.  Sweet!

Try some of these combos or use them as a guide to mix and match your own favorite ingredients:

3 Refreshing Smoothies

Creamy Banana Green Smoothie

Creamy Banana Green Smoothie

Ingredients

8 oz coconut water or almond milk
3-5 leaves of kale (or spinach), stalks removed
1 scoop of vanilla or unflavored protein powder (I like Bulletproof products and Vega One for a vegan option)
1/2 avocado
1/2 frozen banana
2 tbsp ground flax seeds
1/2 tsp cinnamon, optional

Directions

Place all ingredients in blender and blend until smooth.

If you don’t have a powerhouse blender like a Vitamix, put the greens in with almond milk first to get them broken down, then add other ingredients. Otherwise your blender will be ANGRY.
